                                                                    PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

                                                              RESEARCH SHOWS EFFECTIVENESS OF
                                                                           LOCAL PARENTING GROUP

Child abuse is a national concern.  Although incidence reports and prevalence rates vary, the numbers are alarming.

Child abuse is any interaction between a child and his/her care parent that results in non-accidental harm to the child's physical and/or developmental state.

Researchers Dana Fennell and Anne Fishel examined the effects of a structured, time limited parent training on abusive or potentially abusive parents.  The program used was the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting or S.T.E.P.  What they found was after participating in S.T.E.P., abusive parents had significantly more positive perceptions of their children and were significantly less potentially abusive.

I offer the S.T.E.P. program at Psychology Health Group in Davenport.  The program is offered individually at any time, then several times throughout the year group training is offered.  The program lasts 8 weeks and teaches parents why children misbehave, what to do about it, how to use encouragement to motivate change instead of reward and punishment, how to talk so children will listen and how to listen so they'll talk to you, and how to discipline effectively.  To discuss taking this training contact Rick Martenson at Psychology Health Group - 563-359-4049 during business hours or via email at rickmmartenson@msn.com
